Generac Generators

Generac is our top selling brand. As the makers of the OHVI engine Generac has some the most powerful and longest lasting backup generators available.

Choosing a qualified generator installer is more involved than comparing quotes.

While many qualified electricians are experts at wiring homes or troubleshooting a problem circuit, not every electrician has experience installing a standby generator system. I’ve heard many customers say, “I have a friend who is a Master Electrician” but you would be wise to first ask any would-be installer about their experience installing a standby generator. If given a choice between a Master Electrician, with 30 years experience as an electrician (but no real experience installing a standby generator), and a certified Generac contractor with good experience installing and repairing standby generators, I’ll take the Generac contractor every time!

If a would-be installer tells you, “Oh, I think I can probably figure it out,” you should probably dismiss any quote they offer. I’ve been behind too many otherwise well-qualified electricians who have mangled a generator installation that we have had to come in and correct.

Your best chance of having a generator installed correctly

Will come from a factory-authorized dealer. Authorized dealers are required to receive factory training on the installation, service, and repair of a standby system. You really can’t go wrong with factory authorized dealers.

Popular generator manufacturers include Generac, Kohler Generators, and Cummins Power Generation. Browse the manufacturer’s website for the “Dealer Locator”, enter your zip code, and you’ll find a number of dealers in your area.

Don’t fall victim to “low-ball” quotes from inexperienced installers. It’s best to pay a little more for a quality installation from experienced dealers/installers.

Give Roberts Electrical a call for a no-obligation quote. We are a factory-authorized sales and service dealer for Generac Generators and each of our service technicians are professionally trained and install Generac Generator units multiple times a year.

Transfer Switches

Automatic Transfer Switches are critical components of any emergency or standby power system. Transfer switches are reliable, rugged, versatile and compact assemblies for transferring essential loads and electrical distribution systems from one power source to another.

Generac Smart Switches are designed to operate with the Nexus™ and Evolution controllers used on air-cooled generators and the control used on liquid-cooled QT series gaseous generators from 22 kW through 150 kW. This is a 100 amp, open transition switch and is available in single phase in a service rated configuration. It features an aluminum enclosure.

  • Designed for use with single phase generators that utilize an Evolution Controller

  • The controller at the generator handles all the timing, sensing, exercising functions and transfer commands

  • Through the use of Digital Power Management technology (DPM), each of these switches has the capability to truly manage two air conditioning loads with no additional hardware

  • NEMA3R (indoor/outdoor rated) aluminum enclosure is standard

  • Limited Five Year Warranty

  • UL Listed

Surge Protection

Have you ever seen the lights dim in a home when a large appliance like a refrigerator turns on? This is the result of an electrical surge. Without proper house surge protection, these electrical spikes can damage other electrical devices that are plugged into the same wiring circuit. Even more catastrophic surges can occur if lightning strikes a power line near your home. Whole house surge protection requires two different technologies to prevent damage to your home’s electrical devices.

Common reasons for power surges in the home are:

  • Lightning strike of a power line (occurring less than a mile from your home)

  • Power lines that have been downed

  • Local industrial electrical demands

  • On/off cycling of home appliances such as refrigerators and HVAC

Damages from a lightning strike can cost you thousands of dollars in damage to your electrical equipment. A surge from outside your home can travel on any wire that leads into your home. This means an electrical wire, a TV/internet cable and even your telephone line. For large surges caused by lightning, a whole house surge protector is needed to curtail the electrical overload from ever reaching your internal home wiring system.

A surge caused by lightning can cause irreparable damage to a host of common home electronics.

  • Telephone answering machines

  • Fax machines

  • Satellite and home theater systems

  • Computers and modems

  • Circuit boards in refrigerators, ovens and alarm systems

Roberts Electrical of Sudbury can help you choose the right unit for your home and provide professional installation services.

Surges occur more commonly from cycling devices in your home, or downed power lines. Each time your HVAC or refrigerator turns on, a surge or spike of electricity runs through the individual wiring circuit in your home. These recurring surges, over time, can harm other devices that are on the same circuit until one day your television or microwave simply doesn’t work anymore.

Power strips with surge protection are the second line of defense against internal power surges in your home. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that your home is protected just because you have your equipment plugged into a power strip. Important criteria for power strips have to be met to provide your electronic devices with adequate protection. If these standards are not present, the power strips are no better than plugging a piece of equipment into an unprotected wall socket.

Protect your home from the possibility of a whole house surge and from the normal surges caused by common electrical appliances. Roberts Electrical of Sudbury has the experience, knowledge and training to help you get the best protection for a reasonable price. Please call us for a consultation and installation appointment; it’s our pleasure to provide you with prompt quality service.
